NOVEMBER 25, 2008-
I just realized it had been 11 days since I last wrote anything!!
With Barney being laid off and home every day, days and nights kind of roll together. Plus the weather has turned cold, but the days are mostly sunny and there is no wind-so good to NOT have wind-especially since my girl Eileen buzzed my coat a bit short last week-but I DO have the greatest looking feet ever!!!!
It is so good to have both Carol and Barney to take me for my walks these days, the Eagles are in the trees near their nest most days now, so we always remember to take the binoculars. While they were looking for birds, I noticed the strangest creatures near the trail-they really looked like animals, but they never moved muscle, and upon closer observation, I learned they were just decoys! mere steel images of deer and rabbits-just like the steel dogs at the park!! Maybe people here don't want us to forget what animal life looks like.
The hotel has moved their morning coffee station near the door in the Valentino lounge, so it is a lot more convenient for Carol to grab that cup of joe while Barney and I wait for her outside (the lounge was named for some old dude named Rudolph, cause he stayed there so much-seems the ladies all liked him-I don't know about THAT, but Barney likes his coffee).
We went on a short roadtrip a few days ago down I-84, towards the city of Portland, only we veered south and went to Sandy. Barney had submitted his application for a welding job to a tank manufacturing plant and he wanted to see how long it would take to drive there from Hood River. I sleep a lot when I am in the car, but he said it took about a hour and the scenery was just breathtaking-much prettier than driving from Azle to Ft. Worth. We took a different road back to Hood River-the Old Columbia Highway-it was only two lanes, but slower with many turn-outs for hiking and sight-seeing. We stopped at a scenic overlook to stretch our legs and to our surprise the wind had kicked up again and almost blew me away!! Carol was able to get a perfect shot of the Columbia river and then we all dove into the car a sped away. As soon as we did though, we were overtaken by a pack of speeding mopeds-all I saw was a ribbon of colors flying by the car-and then they were gone!!!!WOW!!
As we winded through the woods, our stomachs reminded us that we forgot to eat back in Sandy and we were all getting a bit grouchy. Just when I thought that Carol would blow-we came upon the famous Multnomah Falls and the multitudes that were flocking to see it before the sun vanished. Among the crowds were-get this-the 30+ moped riders, all appearing to be under 20 years old and quickly making their way to the public restrooms. As Carol watched them, she cleverly noticed the sign for "restaurant" above the loo entrance, and knew there was hope for their empty stomachs!! Boy was she right!! Of course, being the obedient gorge dog who stays in the car, I knew that when they returned, my patience would be rewarded with an ample treat. Barney swore it was the best burger he had ever had and Carol praised the organic greens all the way home-we were all in a much better mood when the garage door went up!!! (Oh! I heard that the falls were pretty spectacular too!)
This past Sunday was special in many ways-Nathan came over for breakfast and to watch the 'boys" play AND win-we all had eggs and piggie, plus the sun was shinning-a very good day!!
I heard them talking about a day of thanksgiving that would come soon and all the good food that would be served. Seems as though Nathan and Jenny would be coming for a pancake and egg brunch, then return later for pumpkin pie!!! OH MY!!!PUMPKIN PIE!!! HOW I LOVE PUMPKIN PIE!!! I AM THANKFUL FOR PUMPKIN PIE!!! AND BIRD, AND PIGGIE, AND BISCUITS, AND SOFT PILLOWS AND COOL SPRING WATER, AND ALL OF MY FRIENDS NEAR AND FAR!!! I AM THANKFUL FOR EVERYTHING!!!
YA'LL HAVE A GOOD ONE
I LOVE YA-
